Tottenham Hotspur are willing to pay a substantial amount of money for the services of Brentford ace Ivan Toney.
The North London club decided against signing a replacement for Harry Kane who joined Bayern Munich last summer. Despite losing their record goal scorer, Spurs have done a decent job in the ongoing season.
Heung-min Son and Richarlison have been used in a central role under the Australian boss. While scoring goals hasn’t been a problem, Ange Postecoglou seeks more firepower as he looks to compete with the best teams in the country.
Brentford’s Ivan Toney is a player they have scouted in the past and could look to make a move for him in the summer if the asking price is not beyond their reach.
Graeme Bailey while talking to The Spurs News, said: “He’s one who everyone’s waiting to find out the asking price for him. It is accurate that if he was available for £40m, Spurs would be in the market for him as would Manchester United,”
“If the fee comes down low enough it is one they will look at. With Tottenham, it wouldn’t surprise me if they brought in a winger and a striker.”
Toney returned from his suspension at the start of the year after serving a lengthy ban for breaching the FA gambling regulations. While he started off in fine fashion, his recent form hasn’t been that great.
Despite that, there is no shortage of interest in his services. With his contract running out in 2025, the player is looking to join a bigger club in the summer and Brentford might not be able to stand in his way.
While Spurs are keen on his signature, they are waiting to learn the asking price for the 28-year-old. Graeme Bailey feels if Toney is available for £40 million, the North London club will surely make a move for his services.
Toney has proven himself in the English top flight and he could improve Spurs instantly. But, they will face competition from clubs like Manchester United.
The Red Devils need to bring in an experienced striker, who can share the goalscoring burden with Rasmus Hojlund and Toney would be a superb acquisition for them as well. Marcus Rashford has not been at his best this season and Manchester United need to invest in a reliable goalscorer.
