“Would be my first choice” – Tottenham urged to sign striker with 24 goals and 7 assists last season

Tottenham Hotspur’s search for a centre-forward continues as the club scouts several targets for the upcoming transfer window.

A number of strikers have been linked with a move including Jonathan David, Santiago Gimenez, and Ivan Toney.

However, John Wenham, the owner of the renowned Tottenham podcast Lilywhite Rose, has urged the club to pursue RB Leipzig forward Lois Openda.

The Belgian international has enjoyed a remarkable campaign in the recently concluded Bundesliga.

Lois Openda emerged as the third-highest goal-scorer in the German top flight last season, trailing only Harry Kane and Serhou Guirassy, with 24 goals and 7 assists in his 34 league appearances. (Transfermarkt)

His domestic success extended to the European elite competition, as he shone in the UEFA Champions League.

Openda notably found the net 4 times in his 7 Champions League starts, including 3 goals against defending champions Manchester City across 2 group-stage fixtures.

Speaking to Tottenham News, the club insider advocated for the signing of Openda, highlighting the Leipzig forward as his top choice.

Wenham commended the player’s combination of speed and clinical finishing.

He also highlighted Openda’s versatility, suggesting he could also excel in wide positions, providing an intriguing alternative to Richarlison.

Wenham said:

“I watched Openda in the Champions League a couple of times this year and I was impressed.

“He has a real mix of pace and excellent finishing ability.

“He looks like someone who could also play out wide, so he would be an interesting replacement for Richarlison.

“From the players mentioned by O Keefe, Openda would be my first choice.”

Under manager Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham are set to be proactive in the transfer market, and securing Openda could significantly bolster their attacking options.

The Belgian’s versatility and goal-scoring ability make him an attractive prospect for Tottenham, positioning him as a top target for the club this summer.
