Tottenham Hotspur are preparing for a crucial summer transfer window as they aim to rebuild following a challenging campaign.
With the club set to reinforce their squad, attacking reinforcements appear to be a priority, and one of the names linked with Spurs is Manchester City’s Jack Grealish.
While Grealish’s potential arrival would be a significant statement, it raises questions about the future of James Maddison, who has faced criticism this season despite his contributions.
Former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson has weighed in on the situation, stating that Grealish would be a marquee signing for Spurs. However, he expressed doubts about whether the club would be willing to meet the financial demands required to secure the City winger.
Robinson pointed out that Manchester City are already in the process of reshaping their squad, and if Grealish becomes surplus to requirements, several top clubs would likely be interested in acquiring him.
Given Tottenham’s financial structure, it remains uncertain whether they would be willing to match the wages and transfer fee needed to bring him to North London. Speaking to Tottenham News, Robinson stated:
“I think Jack’s been talked about a lot about his future at Manchester City, along with others.
“You look at the potential rebuild that Pep’s already undertaken. You look at the money that they spent in January, the average age of that squad at Manchester City, and you can see the rebuild starting.
“And if Jack Grealish is to fall foul of that rejuvenation of the squad, he’s a player that any team would have.
“Would I welcome him at Tottenham? Absolutely, I’d welcome him at Tottenham. He’d be a marquee signing. He’d be a huge signing.
“Can I see Tottenham, one, stumping up the money? No. Stumping up the wages either? No. I think there’ll be a lot of other suitors for Jack Grealish.
“I think goalposts and boundaries have to be moved at Tottenham if they are to bring in those types of quality players.”
Grealish, under contract with City until 2027, currently holds a market value of €45 million. Despite his immense talent, he has seen a reduced role this season, making just 26 appearances across all competitions while scoring twice and providing five assists. Since joining the club, he has made 150 appearances, scoring 16 and assisting 23 across all competitions. (Transfermarkt)
Meanwhile, Maddison remains a key player for Spurs, having been one of their top scorers in the Premier League alongside Brennan Johnson. The 28-year-old playmaker has been a creative force but has also faced criticism for inconsistency at times. (StatMuse)
With Tottenham aiming to strengthen their squad for a stronger campaign next season, the decision will come down to whether they move for Grealish or continue placing faith in Maddison to lead their attack.
