Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.
According to Sky Sports, Tottenham are tracking the 21-year-old English defender and they will face competition from Manchester United and Manchester City. In addition to that, signing the talented young central defender will not be easy because of his asking price.
Everton value him at around £60-70 million and the Toffees are unlikely to sanction his departure for a knockdown price this summer. It will be interesting to see if Tottenham are willing to pay a premium for him.
The 21-year-old defender is one of the best talents in the Premier League right now and it is no surprise that Everton are demanding a steep price for him. He has all the attributes to develop into a world-class central defender and he could end up justifying the asking price in the coming seasons.
Spurs will have to improve their squad if they want to get into the Champions League and push for major trophies. Signing elite young talents like Branthwaite will certainly help them improve. However, competing with Manchester City and Manchester United in terms of resources could be quite difficult. Both clubs have considerable resources a could be favourites to sign the player if they are truly keen on him.
In addition to that, Manchester City will be able to offer him Champions League football and the young defender could be tempted to work with the world class manager like Pep Guardiola.
Branthwaite seems destined to play for a big club and it will be interesting to see where he ends up. Tottenham need a quality central defender like him alongside Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven. It will be interesting to see if they can arrange the funds and get the deal done.
