Tottenham to submit new bid for defender after failing to sign him in January

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly looking to sign Thierry Small from Southampton during the summer transfer window.

A report from Football Insider claims that Tottenham tried to sign the player during the January transfer window as well and they submitted an offer of around £800,000 for the 18-year-old left-back. However, Southampton decided to reject the offer and Tottenham are now set to return with a new and improved bid.

Apparently, Southampton wanted £1.2 million for the defender back in January and it remains to be seen whether Tottenham are prepared to pay the asking price.

Small is highly rated in England and he has a big future ahead of him. He could prove to be a quality long-term investment for Tottenham.

The north London club needs to add more depth to their defence and signing a talented young left-back could be a wise decision. Spurs currently have Ryan Sessegnon and Ivan Perisic as their left-back options. The Croatian international has been linked to the move away from the club and Spurs will need to replace him adequately if he moves on. Even if he stays at the club, the former Inter Milan star is in his 30s and he will need to be replaced soon.

Small would be a long-term investment for Tottenham and he could develop into a key player for the Premier League club. The £1.2m fee could prove to be a major bargain.

The opportunity to join Tottenham will be an attractive option for the player. Apparently, clubs like Rangers and St Mirren are keen on signing the teenager as well. It will be interesting to see where he ends up eventually.
