Tottenham to compete with Premier League rivals for 25-year-old defender

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Southampton defender Kyle Walker-Peters.

According to a report from Football Insider, Tottenham are looking to bring him back to the club at the end of the season.

Walker-Peters has been an important first-team player for Southampton since joining the club in 2020. It will be interesting to see if he is keen on returning to his boyhood club at the end of the season.

Southampton are in real danger of going down to the Championship this season and Walker-Peters will want to stay in the top flight. If Tottenham come forward with a concrete proposal for him, the 25 year old could be attracted to the idea of returning to the north London stop.

However, Tottenham will have to sell someone in order to accommodate him. They have Emerson Royal and Pedro Porro as right-backs and they are unlikely to head into the new season with three right-backs.

Walker-Peters is well suited to the Premier League and he could prove to be an upgrade on Royal next season. The Brazilian has been quite inconsistent since his move to Tottenham and he has been criticised for his below-par performances quite often.

Manchester United are reportedly keen on the 25-year-old Southampton defender as well and it remains to be seen whether Tottenham can fend off the competition from their Premier League rivals and sign him.

The Red Devils might have to find a quality replacement for Aaron Wan-Bissaka who has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford at the end of the season. Walker-Peters could prove to be a quality replacement for the former Crystal Palace defender.
