Tottenham Hotspur are looking to bring their former youth product Marcus Edwards back to the club.
Sporting CP are not in the best of financial situations and they need to sanction a few departures in order to balance the books. Marcus Edwards is one of the players that the Portuguese outfit are willing to let go of.
According to a report from A Bola, Tottenham are keen on Edwards’ services amidst interest from West Ham United. The 25-year-old parted ways with Spurs back in 2019 to join Portuguese club Vitoria Guimaraes. On the back of a few impressive seasons with them, he made the switch to Sporting CP in the winter of 2022 and has only gone from strength to strength since.
Edwards featured in 44 matches last term and contributed towards 15 goals (6 goals, 9 assists). However, the English winger lost his starting place during the second half of the season. With him no longer a regular at the club, he is considering a move in the summer.
The former Spurs youth product is open to a return to England and there is interest in his services from West Ham United and Tottenham. His abilities along with his homegrown status make him an attractive prospect. The Hammers want more quality on the flanks and they feel Edwards could be an ideal fit. Julen Lopetegui’s team have been linked with him for a while now but they face stiff competition from Spurs.
Ange Postecoglou seeks more depth on the flanks and Edwards’ arrival could certainly help their cause. Sporting are ready to sanction his departure amidst major financial problems. They have placed a €20 million asking price on the 25-year-old which seems to be on the higher side but Spurs still hold a percentage of his sell-on fee which could make it easier for them to get the deal done.
