By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham’s injury-ridden campaign from last season has continued into the new Premier League season, with a fresh concern arising from their opening match against Leicester City.

Midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur suffered a head injury that saw him stretchered off the field, adding to the club’s injury woes.

The incident occurred in the 75th minute of the match, following an aerial clash with Leicester City’s Abdul Fatawu.

Bentancur, who was making a significant impact in midfield, received a warm round of applause from the King Power Stadium crowd as he was stretchered off and replaced by 18-year-old Archie Gray, making his Premier League debut for Tottenham.

Bentancur underwent medical evaluations following the game and will be monitored closely throughout the week in accordance with concussion protocols, as reported by London World.

Although the injury does not appear to be severe, the Uruguayan international is likely miss Tottenham’s upcoming fixture against Everton as a precautionary measure.

The game ended in a 1-1 draw, with Tottenham dominating the early stages but failing to capitalise on their opportunities.

Pedro Porro’s header gave Spurs an early lead, but Jamie Vardy’s equaliser in the second half ensured the points were shared.

In a timely boost, Yves Bissouma is expected to return to the squad after serving a suspension, providing much-needed reinforcement in the midfield.

Tottenham’s medical staff and coaching team remain hopeful for a swift recovery for Bentancur, with his return to action dependent on ongoing assessments.

Spurs will aim to bounce back with an improved performance against Everton in their first home game of the season.

The Toffees will be without the experienced Ashley Young who picked up a red card during their 3-0 defeat against Brighton.
