Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has been linked with a move away from the club at the end of the season.

Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid are keen on securing his signature in the summer, and a report from Football Insider claims that the Argentine International wants to compete in the Champions League. The report further claims that Tottenham have set an asking price of £50 million for him, and they will sell him if the right offer is presented.

Despite the fact that he is the best defender at the club, they have decided to sanction his departure because of his poor form and injury concerns. The South American has missed quite a few matches due to injuries this season, and he can be inconsistent at times.

It will be interesting to see if Tottenham can replace him adequately in the summer. The 26-year-old could prove to be an excellent acquisition for most clubs. The opportunity to play for Atletico Madrid will be quite exciting for him. He would get to fight for league titles and the Champions League with them.

Tottenham have looked vulnerable defensively this season, and it is an area of the pitch that needs improvement. They should look to invest in a top class central defender if Romero leaves in the summer. They should look to invest in a quality defensive midfielder as well.

Meanwhile, Romero is at the peak of his powers, and he will want to fight for trophies regularly. Tottenham are not quite at that level, and joining another club would be ideal for him. He has already won the World Cup and the Copa America with his country. He will want to win major trophies at the club level as well.
