Tottenham scouted highly-rated UCL midfielder this week, enquiries made

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Arthur Vermeeren from Belgian club Royal Antwerp.

A report from 90 Min claims that Tottenham scouts were in attendance when Vermeeren was in action in the UEFA Champions League during the midweek.

Tottenham have been keeping tabs on the 18-year-old midfielder for a while, and the report from 90 Min claims that they have already made enquiries about the player to his club.

Tottenham are not the only English club keen on the talented young midfielder and they will face competition from bitter rivals Arsenal. Arsenal scouts were in attendance to watch the player during the midweek as well and it remains to be seen which of the two clubs come forward with a concrete proposal to sign the midfielder.

The 18-year-old is highly rated across Europe and he could develop into a quality Premier League midfielder with the right coaching and guidance. The opportunity to join clubs like Tottenham and Arsenal will be an exciting one for the player, and it will be interesting to see if Royal Antwerp are prepared to sanction his departure in January.

Tottenham need more depth in the middle of the park and Vermeeren would be a quality long-term investment. The north London outfit will be without some of their key players during the AFCON and they have a number of injury issues to deal with as well.

Signing a midfielder should be a top priority for them in January and it remains to be seen whether they can beat Arsenal in the transfer race and secure Vermeeren’s signature.

The 18-year-old can operate as a defensive midfielder as well as a central midfielder. He has two goals and five assists to his name across all competitions this season.
