‘I said no…’: Midfielder confirms he turned down Premier League giants for Tottenham

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Sandro rejected a move to Manchester City because of his love for the North London club.

Former Brazilian defensive midfielder Sandro who had spent his best years at Tottenham hung up his boots last summer after being without a club for a year.

He joined the North London club back in the summer of 2010 from Internacional. The 35-year-old had a fruitful spell at the English club that lasted four years before he ended up leaving in 2014.
During his time at the North London club, he featured in a total of 106 matches and even contributed towards seven goals.

The former Brazil international was at the peak of his powers during his time at Spurs. Unfortunately, things didn’t go according to plan for him and he left Spurs following his struggles with injuries which hampered his career massively.

Meanwhile, Sandro has recently revealed that he had the opportunity to join Manchester City during his peak but he rejected it ‘out of love’ for Tottenham. He didn’t want to break his connection with the London club and their fans.

Sandro had offers to leave Tottenham

While talking to Gianluca di Marzio about his career, the 35-year-old made the revelation about the opportunities he had after Spurs’ first-ever Champions League campaign in 2010/11.

Sandro said: “It was a crazy match that we won 1-0 with Peter Crouch scoring the winning goal. Then it was a special evening for me because it was my debut in the Champions League. I remember that our goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes was incredible that evening.

“When you needed him, he always responded and was present. That evening was monumental. What if I could go to Milan in the following years? Milan wanted me as well as Napoli and Manchester City. In my best moment I said no to many clubs out of love for Tottenham.”

While he had the opportunity to play for City, the 35-year-old defensive midfielder admitted that his love for Tottenham was the reason why he rejected a move to multiple clubs. The North London club meant far more to him than what was on offer at other clubs.
