“Three or four weeks” – Tottenham star reveals he has fractured his toe

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has revealed that he has been playing with a fractured toe since weeks.

Rodrigo Bentancur has been on international duty representing his country in the final international break of the season.

The 26-year-old participated in Uruguay’s 1-1 draw against the Basque Country last weekend, coming off the bench during the match.

After the game, Bentancur disclosed that he had been playing with a fractured toe for the last 2 to 3 weeks.

Bentancur reveals he fractured his toe before the Tottenham vs Palace game

In a post-game interview with Polideportivo, which was reported by ESPN, Bentancur revealed that he had been coping with a fractured toe while playing for Spurs for the past two to three weeks.

The injury occurred during a training session before Tottenham’s league win against Crystal Palace earlier this month.

Despite the setback, Bentancur continued to compete, explaining that he broke his phalanx and attempted to allow it time to heal, but found it impossible to halt his participation for the necessary three to four weeks.

He said:

“I broke it two or three weeks ago, but I’m still playing the same. I broke my phalanx. I had to stop for three or four weeks for it to knit up, and it was impossible. It was before the game against Crystal Palace in training, but here I go, recovering. Once I warm up, I forget.”

Bentancur yet to return to his best form for Tottenham following injuries

Bentancur missed out most of the first half of the season due to injuries. The defensive midfielder has only made 13 appearances this season, seeing just 533 minutes on the field.

The former Juventus man has featured in Spurs’ last 9 Premier League games, primarily coming off the bench.

And while he has not been at his best, the Uruguayan has proved his quality last season and it is only a matter of time till he returns to full fitness.

Ange Postecoglou will hope that is sooner than later as we enter the final stretch of the season with the club aiming for a top 4 finish.
