Tottenham Hotspur remain interested in signing Alessandro Bastoni from Inter Milan at the end of the season.
A report from Fichajes claims that the north London club will have to compete with Chelsea and Manchester City for his services.
Bastoni will enter the final 12 months of his contract in the summer and he is yet to sign an extension with the Italian giants.
Apparently, the defender is an ‘old desire’ of Antonio Conte but Tottenham are still keen on signing him despite the 53-year-old’s departure recently.
Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano claims that platinum wanted to sign the defender last summer but it was not possible to get the deal done because bastoni was keen on staying.
Apparently, the 23-year-old is still looking to stay at Inter Milan and sign a new deal with them. The two parties are currently locked in contract talks and it will be interesting to see if they can come to an agreement soon.
“Tottenham wanted Alessandro Bastoni last summer, but it was not possible to proceed as he wanted to stay at Inter,” Romano said to COS.
“Bastoni still wants to stay and sign new deal with Inter; discussions are ongoing, there was a meeting yesterday with his agent and negotiations continue.”
Tottenham need to bring in a top-quality defender and the Bastoni has the potential to develop into a world-class player.
If they can secure his services at a reasonable price this summer, it could prove to be a masterstroke.
The Italian is capable of operating the back four as well as a back three. Furthermore, he can play as a make-shift left back and his versatility will be an added bonus.
