Tottenham face competition from Juventus and Bayer Leverkusen for the services of Riccardo Calafiori.
The North London club are all set to undergo major changes to their squad in the summer. While they started the season in fine fashion, things haven’t been great towards the end. Tottenham have lost each of their last four league games and these defeats have highlighted areas that need reinforcements ahead of next season.
The defence is one of the key areas that Ange Postecoglou will look to bolster. According to a report from Football Insider, Tottenham are keen on having Riccardo Calafiori in their squad and they are ready to battle it out with Juventus and Bayer Leverkusen for his signature.
The 21-year-old centre-back joined Bologna last summer from FC Basel and he hasn’t looked back since. His consistent performances in the heart of the defence and his ability to feature as a left-sided full-back have attracted a lot of interest.
Despite having added Radu Dragusin to the mix in the winter, the Australian manager wants more depth at the back as they are all set to return to Europe next season. They are looking at Calafiori as someone who can help them in the long run while Dragusin provides cover to their first-choice centre-back pairing of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.
Tottenham are well connected in the Italian transfer market thanks to Fabio Paratici who continues to work behind the scenes. Tottenham certainly have the financial means to get the deal done, and it remains to be seen how the situation develops.
With Gleison Bremer’s future uncertain, the Old Lady are looking at the Bologna star as a potential replacement. Meanwhile, Leverkusen are all set to feature in the Champions League next season following a dream campaign this season. As a result, they are looking to add more quality and depth to their ranks and Calafiori is one of their targets.
