Tottenham plot move for 24-yr-old utility man after recommendation from Ledley King

Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing the West Ham United defender Ben Johnson.

A report from Football Transfers claims that they are looking to add more depth to the defensive unit and the versatile fullback has caught their attention. Johnson is capable of operating as a right back, left back as well as central defender.

Former defender Ledley King has reportedly recommended Tottenham to sign the player and it remains to be seen whether Tottenham can secure an agreement with the player. The defender is in the final few months of his contract with Hammers and West Ham have failed to secure an agreement regarding an extension.

If his situation does not change in the coming weeks, he will move on as a free agent in the summer and Spurs will certainly fancy their chances of securing his signature on a free transfer.

The 24-year-old is well settled in English football, and he could make an immediate impact at Tottenham. Signing a player of his experience and quality on a free would represent a major bargain.

Spurs have already added quality and depth to their defensive unit with the signings of Micky van de Ven and Rado Radu Dragusin this season. Signing a versatile full back like Johnson could complete their defensive unit.

The North London outfit will be competing in the UEFA Champions League next season and the opportunity to join them will be an attractive one for the defender. That said, he will probably seek gametime assurances before making the move.
