Tottenham outcast expected to move on in January on a free transfer

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is in the final year of his contract with North London club.

He was expected to leave the club during the summer transfer window but Spurs failed to secure a permanent exit for him.

Clubs from France and Saudi Arabia were keen on the 36-year-old French international, but the player did not find a suitable project for himself.

He will be a free agent next summer and Tottenham are hoping to get rid of him before that. According to Matt Law from the Daily Telegraph, Lloris is expected to leave Tottenham on a free transfer in January.

He has fallen down the pecking order at the North London club and it seems that Tottenham do not want to keep him at the club any longer.

Guglielmo Vicario has been signed as the first-choice goalkeeper at Spurs and Lloris is unlikely to play for them anytime soon.

It makes sense for the Frenchman to move on in January and Tottenham are clearly willing to terminate his contract in order to get rid of him. Although they will not be able to recoup a fee for the player, it could save them millions in wages.

It will be interesting to see if Lloris can find a club for himself when the winter transfer window opens.

He has been a quality player for Tottenham over the years but the 36-year-old has clearly regressed and he needs to join the club where he will get ample first-team action at this stage of his career.
