Tottenham Hotspur are preparing a serious move for Xavi Simons in the final stretch of the transfer window.

The 22-year-old Dutch playmaker, currently on the books at RB Leipzig, is in London and has been excused from training to hold talks about his future. Sources have informed TheBoyHotspur that Spurs are negotiating the financial terms, and while no formal bid has been submitted yet, verbal figures have already been exchanged.

Spurs are working on Xavi Simons deal

RB Leipzig are demanding around €70 million, including bonuses for Simons. Tottenham see the deal as a logical step, especially after James Maddison’s injury left a creative void in midfield. The club has the financial muscle to meet Leipzig’s asking price, but Simons’ €11 million annual salary and high wage expectations could clash with Spurs’ structured pay scale.

Simons has long been linked with Chelsea and was open to a move to Stamford Bridge. However, Chelsea’s inability to offload attacking players like Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson stalled the deal, allowing Tottenham to enter the race. The collapse of the Eberechi Eze deal also pushed Spurs to shift their focus toward Simons.

Bayern Munich also showed interest, but only explored a loan deal without a purchase option, something Leipzig are unwilling to consider. Despite Vincent Kompany’s approval, the move was not backed by Uli Hoeneß and the Bayern board.

With Chelsea and Bayern’s interest cooling, Tottenham have emerged as the “most serious contender” as per sources close to the situation. As the deadline approaches, Simons’ presence in London and the progress in talks suggest the transfer could be finalised very soon.

The Netherlands International has the technical attributes to thrive in the Premier League, and he will look to establish himself as a key player for Tottenham if the transfer goes through. Simons had 11 goals and eight assists last season.
