Tottenham Hotspur will open contract renewal talks with Cristian Romero before Christmas amidst interest from Real Madrid.

Cristian Romero has managed to establish himself as one of the mainstays at Tottenham since joining them back in 2021 from Atalanta. While it was an initial loan move, the North London club made it permanent in the following summer and the Argentine international hasn’t looked back since.

While he still has three years left on his deal at Spurs, his future has become a big talking point as European giants are keen on signing the 26-year-old World Cup winner. But according to TBR Football, Tottenham are set to hold contract renewal talks with Romero as they look to secure his long-term future. They are looking to get the talks underway before Christmas.

The 26-year-old was subject to a lot of interest during the recently concluded transfer window. Real Madrid were one of the clubs linked with Romero and they retain their interest in the Argentine ace as they look to reinforce their backline with David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger on the wrong side of 30.

While the former Atalanta star is a top target for them, Spurs are unlikely to sanction his departure irrespective of the offer as they consider him to be an integral part of their plans in the long run.

Meanwhile, in order to secure his future, they are ready to offer him a new long-term deal with improved terms. They are all set to start talks with the Argentine international before Christmas and will be aiming to get it done before the end of the season.
