Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on the Southampton goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu.
A report from Football Insider claims that the North London outfit are keeping tabs on the 21-year-old Republic of Ireland international and he is considered a ‘top prospect’ by the Tottenham recruitment department. Apparently club scouts have been watching the player in action since last season.
The 21-year-old has been a key player for Southampton in the Championship this season and it remains to be seen whether they are prepared to sell him.
The former Manchester City goalkeeper could be the ideal long-term replacement for club legend, Hugo Lloris, who is expected to move on soon. The French international is in the final year of his contract, but there have been rumours that his deal could be terminated soon.
Bazunu would be a quality acquisition but Southampton might not be willing to sell a key player midway through the season. Any move might have to wait until the summer transfer window.
Southampton will be desperate to secure promotion back to the Premier League and they cannot afford to weaken the squad in January.
Meanwhile, they paid £15 million for the goalkeeper from Manchester City in the summer of 2022 and they will look to demand a premium for him if Tottenham come calling.
The goalkeeper is likely to be tempted to join the North London outfit and it would be a major step up in his career. It remains to be seen whether the two clubs can come to an agreement.
