Tottenham Hotspur are interested in acquiring the services of Manchester United target Jarrad Branthwaite.
The North London club are looking at ways to reinforce their squad and they feel bringing in a world-class centre-back could help them compete with the very best. According to a report from GiveMeSport, Tottenham are keen on having Jarrad Branthwaite in their ranks following his impressive performances for Everton.
The English centre-back had a sensational loan spell at PSV Eindhoven last season and on the back of those performances, he broke into Toffees’ first team and has been one of their best players during the 2023/24 season.
The 21-year-old has been a rock at the back and his performances have resulted in a lot of interest from top clubs. Manchester United are one of the clubs who have been keeping a close eye on him.
The Red Devils want to bolster their defence ahead of next season. With Raphaël Varane leaving, Branthwaite could be an ideal replacement and they are looking to make the most out of Everton’s financial struggles.
The Merseyside club will have to sanction a few sales in the summer to avoid breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules. While they have placed an £80 million price tag on the 21-year-old, Manchester United will look to strike a deal for a much less as they are aware of the fact that Everton are in serious danger of going into administration if they do not sanction the departure of a few of their star players.
Tottenham have also been tracking the Everton defender for a while now. Despite having signed two centre-backs over the last two transfer windows, the North London club want to sign another defender in the summer as Ange Postecoglou seeks to add more depth.
They feel Branthwaite could be a great addition for the short as well as the long run. While they are willing to battle it out with the Red Devils, it is not going to be easy for Spurs to overcome the rivals.
Tottenham have looked for defensively at times this season and they need more quality at the back. The Everton defender will certainly help them improve and he could form a quality partnership with the likes of Cristian Romero and Micky Van de Ven.
