Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly joined the race to sign Vitor Roque, one of Brazil’s most promising young footballers.
The 18-year-old, who plays as a versatile attacker for Athletico Paranaense, has attracted interest from a host of Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United, Aston Villa and Chelsea.
According to a report from Globo Esporte, Spurs have already had contact with Roque’s representatives, who were in England last week to discuss his future.
The report adds that while there are currently no official proposals on the table, two undisclosed English teams along with Barcelona are said to have promised to make a bid for Roque in the summer transfer window. Roque has a release clause of around €42 million with his current club.
His impressive performances on the pitch have already earned him a call-up to the Brazilian national team. He was also a key member of the Brazil U20 squad that won the South American Championship in February.
As a versatile attacker who can play across the front three positions, Roque is known for his confidence on the ball and his ability to both dribble past opponents and link up with teammates to unlock defenses.
In 41 appearances for his club, he has scored 11 goals and assisted three, including four goals in just five games this season.
Tottenham’s potential interest in Roque would align with their recent strategy of signing talented young players with the intention of developing and potentially selling for profit. If Spurs do manage to secure his signature, Roque could potentially be a key player for the club in the years to come.
