Tottenham join Manchester United in the race to sign 18-year-old PL talent

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on signing the Brighton and Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson.

The 18-year-old has attracted a lot of attention with his impressive performances this season and Manchester United are also keen on securing his services. He has 13 goals and five assists to his name across all competitions (including Premier League 2).

A report from Football Insider claims that Premier League giants Chelsea are monitoring the young forward as well and it will be interesting to see where the Republic of Ireland international ends up.

Tottenham definitely need to add more depth to their attacking department and they have been overly reliant on Harry Kane.

The 18-year-old Brighton striker would be a superb long-term investment for the north London club and he could end up replacing the England international in the long run.

For now, the 18-year-old could share the goal-scoring burden alongside Kane.

Ferguson is more than just a goalscorer and his overall footballing ability has been quite impressive this season. The 18-year-old is impressive at linking up with his teammates and holding the ball up. He could add a new dimension to the Tottenham attack next season.

However, Brighton have proven a difficult club to negotiate with and the Seagulls are not in need of money right now. It will be interesting to see if they are willing to sell a prized prospect like Ferguson in the summer.

The Premier League side could look to demand a premium and Tottenham will not want to get involved in a bidding war, especially with Chelsea and Manchester United involved.

Manchester United need to bring in a quality goalscorer as well and Ferguson would be a quality long-term prospect for them. The 18-year-old would allow Marcus Rashford to play in his natural role as the left-sided forward and he could lead the line for the Red Devils.
