Tottenham Hotspur could look to cancel Matthew Craig’s loan spell at Barnsley during the January transfer window.
The 21-year-old defensive midfielder has struggled for regular gametime at Barnsley and multiple clubs are monitoring his situation. The midfielder needs to play more often to continue his development and Tottenham are prepared to send him out on loan to another club, as per Football Insider.
The Scottish under-21 international has made 15 appearances in all competitions for Barnsley, but he has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot in recent weeks. It remains to be seen whether Burnley are prepared to provide him with more opportunities in the coming weeks. Craig is highly rated in the lower divisions of English football and he could prove to be a quality acquisition for multiple EFL clubs. The player will be desperate for regular gametime as well, and another loan would be ideal for him if he returns to Tottenham.

The North London club will not be able to provide him with the opportunities he needs, and therefore you should look to head out in search of regular game time. The 21-year-old will look to continue his development with regular football and sort out a permanent move in future. It seems unlikely that he will be able to establish himself as a first-team player for Tottenham in the near future.
The midfielder is versatile enough to operate as a central midfielder as well, and he could be a very useful acquisition during the second half of the season. It remains to be seen where he ends up.
The midfielder has a contract with Tottenham until June 20206 and the North London club will probably hope that he can impress on loan during the second half of the season so that they can sell him for a reasonable price in the summer.
