Tottenham are reportedly targeting Borussia Dortmund’s talented winger Jamie Gittens, viewing the 20-year-old as a potential long-term successor to Heung-min Son.
However, luring Gittens away from Dortmund will be no easy feat, as the German club remains firm in its resolve to retain their young star.
£40m offer for Jamie Gittens will be politely declined
Dortmund’s managing director recently made it clear that a £40 million bid would fall well short of their valuation, emphasizing their commitment to keeping the in-form winger at the club.
The director remarked in his response whether they would accept a £40 million bid for the Englishman (quotes via SportBILD):
“I wouldn’t hang up immediately because that would not be in keeping with my character. But I would politely decline.”
Gittens has garnered attention from several Premier League clubs, including Spurs, due to his ability to deliver decisive performances, particularly in high-stakes competitions like the Champions League.
Scouts from the North London club, Chelsea, and Liverpool have all been in attendance to watch the exciting attacker play for the German club.
Gittens’ impressive form at Borussia Dortmund
Since moving to Dortmund from Manchester City’s academy in 2020, Gittens has shown remarkable progress. Despite early injury setbacks, he emerged as a standout talent in the 2021–22 UEFA Youth League, earning a promotion to the senior squad. Over time, he has solidified his reputation as a key player, contributing significantly in both domestic and European matches.
This season, Gittens has improved his game even further, becoming a pivotal figure for Dortmund. His standout moments include scoring two goals as a substitute in both the Bundesliga opener and their Champions League clash against Club Brugge, earning him man-of-the-match awards.
Overall, he has racked up nine goals and four assists in 22 appearances, taking his overall tally to 14 goals and 13 assists in 80 games across all competitions.
With a contract running through 2028 and a market value estimated at €50 million, Gittens represents a highly valuable asset for Dortmund and a challenging target for Tottenham. Any potential transfer would require a substantial financial commitment from Spurs.
