Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are looking to sign Santiago Gimenez from Feyenoord this summer.
According to a report from TV Azteca, the two Premier League clubs are ‘interested’ in the striker and the development that he prefers to move to the Premier League will come as a huge boost to them.
The 23-year-old Mexican has 26 goals in all competitions this season and he could solve Tottenham and Liverpool’s goalscoring problems if he joins them. He has proven himself in the Dutch league and it remains to be seen whether he can make his mark in English football as well.
Feyenoord are unlikely to let a talented young player like him leave for a knockdown price and the two English clubs might have to shell out a premium for him. It will be interesting to see if they are ready to break the bank for the Mexican.
Tottenham need to bring in a quality long-term replacement for Harry Kane and Gimenez could certainly fill that void. He is a reliable goalscorer and he could lead the line for the North London club next season. His arrival will also allow players like Son Heung-min and Richarlison to operate in their natural roles. The 23-year-old would help share the goalscoring burden with them as well.
Meanwhile, Liverpool might need to bring in an upgrade on Darwin Nunez, who has not been able to score goals consistently. The Mexican could be the solution to their problems. Newly appointed Liverpool manager Arne Slot has worked with the Mexican striker during the time together at Feyenoord and it will be interesting to see if he can help the Reds secure his signature this summer.
