Tottenham defender Djed Spence is poised to leave the club this summer.
Following a promising loan spell at Genoa in the latter half of last season, it has been reported that the right-back is in advanced talks to join the Italian side permanently.
According to the latest from Football Insider, Spence’s move is expected to be a loan-to-buy deal.
It is reported that the two clubs are in discussions to come to an arrangement that includes a potential permanent transfer for £7 million, contingent on specific performance-based conditions being met.
Last season, the former England U21 international made 16 appearances for Genoa in Serie A, starting half of those games and coming on as a substitute in the rest. (Transfermarkt)
Spence’s versatility was evident as he played on both flanks in defence and midfield, showcasing his adaptability.
Tottenham aim to recoup as much of their initial investment as possible. Spurs signed Spence from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2022 for €14.7 million.
Since his arrival, the defender has made only six appearances for the Lilywhites, totalling just 41 minutes of playtime.
The ongoing negotiations highlight Genoa’s serious intent to secure Spence’s services permanently, having been impressed by his performance last season.
As discussions progress, it seems increasingly likely that Spence will continue his career in Italy, potentially making a significant impact at Genoa.
