Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on signing the Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori.
According to a report from Calciomercato.It, multiple Italian clubs are keen on signing the 21-year-old defender but Tottenham are in the ‘front row’ to secure his services. The North London club will have to pay a fee of around €16-20 million to sign the talented young defender.
Calafiori is highly rated across Europe, Europe and he has a big future ahead of him. He would be a future investment for the north London club and he could develop into a key player for them with the right guidance.
Tottenham have three impressive central defenders at their disposal, right now – Cristian Romero, Radu Dragusin and Micky van de Ven. However, they still need to add one more defender to complete the defensive unit for the foreseeable future.
The reported asking price for Calafiori seems quite reasonable and he could easily justify the investment in the long term if he manages to adapt to English football and fulfil his potential with Tottenham.
It will be interesting to see if Tottenham follow up on their interest with a concrete proposal to sign the player at the end of the season.
The central defender needs to decide on his next move carefully. He must look to join the club where he will get ample first team action. Sitting on the bench at a big club will not benefit his development. He must seek gametime assurances from Tottenham before making the move.
