Tottenham are closing in on the signature of Leeds United sensation Archie Gray.
The teenager’s sensational rise at Leeds has resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe. Brentford were keen on acquiring his services and they had struck a deal worth £40 million including add-ons with Leeds. Gray even completed a medical with Brentford on Saturday but he seems to have had a change of heart at the very end.
The English youth international no longer wants to join the Bees and according to a report from Football Insider, Tottenham are in advanced talks to sign the Leeds teenager. They want to hijack the deal and the player is on standby to undergo a medical with the North London club.
Gray was promoted to the Leeds first team last summer and he had a sensational debut campaign where he was involved in 52 matches. While he prefers playing as a central midfielder, the 18-year-old was often used as a right-back and he didn’t disappoint.
His ability to feature in multiple positions and his huge potential are what attracts interest from Ange Postecoglou’s team. The North London club have a long-standing interest in the teenager’s services and they feel he could be a great signing for them. As a result, Spurs are working hard to strike a deal with Leeds who are in need of raising funds to balance their books. They are in advanced talks with the player’s camp and there should be a major breakthrough soon.
