Tottenham are focusing on securing a versatile defender this summer, particularly one who can play as both a centre-back and a left-back.
Among their top targets is Bologna’s highly-rated defender, Riccardo Calafiori.
However, Spurs face stiff competition for the Italian international. Calafiori has drawn interest from several top clubs, including Chelsea, Newcastle United, Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan, and Napoli.
As per the latest from CaughtOffside, both Tottenham and Newcastle have already initiated discussions with the player’s representatives.
Calafiori, 22, is under contract with Bologna until June 2027, having joined the club last summer from FC Basel for a fee of €4 million.
During his debut season under manager Thiago Motta, Calafiori made a significant impact, helping Bologna secure a fifth-place finish in Serie A and qualify for the Champions League. He made 30 appearances in the Italian top flight, scoring two goals and providing five assists.
The report adds that Bologna face a unique challenge regarding Calafiori’s potential transfer as they must pay 40% of any transfer fee to his former club, FC Basel.
Calafiori’s ability to perform both as a centre-back and a left-back makes him an ideal candidate for Tottenham’s defensive needs.
Spurs are committed to bolstering their defence to contend for the Premier League title next season under Ange Postecoglou.
Despite the interest from other clubs, recent reports indicate that Juventus is Calafiori’s preferred destination. Yet, nothing has been finalised, and Spurs still have an opportunity to secure his signature.
The Lilywhites remain committed to bolstering their defence to contend for the Premier League title next season under Ange Postecoglou.
