Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a number of goalkeepers in recent months as a potential replacement for club legend Hugo Lloris.
The 36-year-old Frenchman has not been at his best this season and there have been calls to replace him as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Lloris has cost his team with error-prone performances and it will be interesting to see if Spurs decide to bring in a quality replacement at the end of the season.
A report from Fichajes claims that Tottenham Hotspur are ‘interested’ in the Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea and club chairman Daniel Levy ‘will try to get him’ out of Old Trafford as soon as the season ends.
The Spanish international goalkeeper has a contract at Old Trafford until the summer of 2023 and he is yet to sign an extension with the Red Devils. Manchester United have an option for a further year in his contract and it remains to be seen whether they are prepared to trigger it in the coming months.
The 32-year-old has been an important player for Manchester United since joining the club in 2011 under Sir Alex Ferguson.
However, the Spaniard is in his twilight years and he has not been the ideal fit for Erik ten Hag’s system. The Dutch manager prefers proactive keepers who will help in building from the back and has impressive distribution skills.
While the Spaniard is an excellent shot-stopper, his distribution leaves a lot to be desired.
Manchester United have been linked with potential replacements as well and it will be interesting to see if they are prepared to let the player join Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.
Signing the 32-year-old on a free transfer could prove to be a bargain for the north London club. He has the leadership qualities and the winning experience needed to replace someone like Lloris.
The Spaniard has 18 clean sheets across all competitions this season and he earns £375,000-a-week at Old Trafford. He might need to take a major pay cut in order to join the Londoners.
