Tottenham have received a massive boost as Arsenal skipper Martin Odegaard could now miss the North London derby with an ankle injury.
After a disappointing start to the 2024/25 season, Tottenham have an opportunity to get things back on track with a win against arch-rivals Arsenal on Sunday. Defeating one of the favourites to win the Premier League could be a massive boost for Spurs and they do have the perfect opportunity as the Gunners will be without quite a few star players.
According to a report from Sky Sports, Mikel Arteta’s team are all set to be without their skipper Martin Odegaard who picked up an injury on international duty. He was carried off the pitch after injuring his ankle in the game against Austria on Monday night.
The Norway coach Stale Solbakken talked about the 25-year-old’s injury while speaking on TV2, said: “It looked bad in the dressing room too.”
Odegaard will undergo further tests today as they seek more details about the severity of the injury. While there is no clarity about how severe it is, it looks almost certain that he won’t be available for the North London derby at the end of the week.
With Odegaard out injured, the Gunners will now be without all three of their first-choice midfielders as summer signing Mikel Merino is out after fracturing his shoulder in his first training session and Declan Rice is suspended for the derby after a controversial sending-off against Brighton.
While Spurs could also be without three first-team players, it looks like they will go up against an Arsenal side that won’t be at full strength by any means. As a result, they have the perfect opportunity to get the better of their rivals and get things back on track.
