Tottenham Hotspur tried to sign the Burnley defender Maxime Esteve on deadline day.

According to a report from L’Equipe, Tottenham offered £20 million for the 22-year-old defender but Burnley were holding out for a fee of around £30 million.

It will be interesting to see if Tottenham decide to return for him at the end of the season. It is no secret that they need defensive reinforcements, and they were trying to sign Axel Disasi from Chelsea. However, the player ended up joining Aston Villa instead.

Tottenham have brought in Kevin Danso on loan, and it will be interesting to see if the Austrian can hit the ground running in the Premier League and help Tottenham tighten up at the back.

Esteve has done well in the Championship with Burnley and there is no doubt that the Frenchman would have been a quality long-term acquisition for Tottenham. He has the quality to thrive in the English top flight. The 22-year-old is still quite young and he is likely to improve with coaching and experience. He could have developed into a key player for Tottenham with the right guidance.

The French defender will certainly be attracted to the idea of playing in the Premier League. Tottenham are a big club. They will be an attractive destination for the player. He will certainly hope that the North London club retain their interest in him and return in the summer. It remains to be seen whether he can continue to impress in the Championship.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have struggled with injury problems this season and they needed to add sufficient depth to the squad during the January transfer window. They have brought in some quality signings and it will be interesting to see if they can get their season back on track now.
