Tottenham current problems now put Kulusevski transfer in jeopardy

By Mehdi Gokal -

Dejan Kulusevski had a difficult time at Juventus, where he was not able to secure a regular spot in the team.

In January 2021, he was given a new opportunity to prove himself when he joined Tottenham Hotspur on loan.

He joined the London team alongside Rodrigo Bentancur and quickly established himself as a regular starter under coach Antonio Conte.

While Bentancur’s transfer was made permanent, Kulusevski’s move was only a loan deal with an option to buy.

This option was dependent on the team’s performance and his own performance.

The team had to qualify for the next edition of the Champions League and he had to play in at least half of the matches.

However, recent report by Calciomercato suggests that the transfer may not be made permanent due to Tottenham’s current poor form and potential failure to qualify for the Champions League.

In addition, the future of coach Antonio Conte and sporting director Fabio Paratici is uncertain, which could also affect Kulusevski’s future at the club.

That being said, considering the impact he has made under Conte and how he has established himself as a key member of the squad, one would expect Spurs to sign the winger on a permanent deal even if the conditions are not met.

And 35 million euros for him would be considered a bargain fee.
