Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a significant boost with the return of vice-captain Cristian Romero, who made his comeback in the club’s 2-2 draw against Bournemouth over the weekend.

The Argentine centre-back has endured a challenging season, missing 27 games due to multiple injury setbacks, with a hamstring issue keeping him out of action for an extended period. His return provides a much-needed lift for Spurs as they head into a crucial phase of the campaign.

After his first game back, Romero took to Instagram to share his emotions, expressing his joy at rejoining the squad and contributing on the pitch again.

Cristian Romero’s message to the fans following his return

The 26-year-old acknowledged that while the team still has a lot to improve, they remain committed to working together to turn their season around.

He also extended his gratitude to the Argentine national team’s medical staff for playing a key role in his recovery.

“After a difficult period full of things that happened in the middle, I am back with the group and happy to be able to help the team. There is certainly a lot to correct and work on, but we are together and eager to turn this situation around. See you on Thursday, we will come back stronger than ever, all together.

“Thankful to the physiotherapists of Selección Argentina (@afaseleccionfor) getting me out of a bad moment and for putting me back on the field where I am so happy. Thank you all for the support always”

Romero’s comments suggests there is a big problem at Tottenham

While Cristian Romero’s update is a positive one, it indicates that there is a big problem behind-the-scenes at Tottenham. The fact that the club had to outsource his recovery to the doctors in Argentina, shows the standard of the current doctors and physios at the club.

It is not just Romero who had to go to his country for recovery. As per a recent report from Brazilian outlet Bolavip, Richarlison went to the Brazilian club Palmeiras for medical purposes. It’s reported that he went for consultation with the team’s doctor and to start medical examinations to try and recover from the latest injury.

The club has also undergone a serious injury crisis for two seasons straight now, with numerous first-team players suffering from long-term injuries.

Romero’s recent comments further highlight the growing problem at the club. Does the entire sports science department at Spurs need an overhaul?
