Tottenham could submit official bid for 21-year-old who impressed against them in the UCL

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on signing Manuel Ugarte from Sporting CP at the end of the season.

The 21-year-old has a contract with the Portuguese club until the summer of 2026 and he has a release clause of €60 million in his contract.

A report from the Portuguese publication Record (h/t SportWitness) claims that Tottenham are looking to submit an official bid to sign the 21-year-old defensive midfielder when the transfer window opens at the end of the season.

Tottenham are hoping to add more depth and quality in the middle of the park and they have identified Ugarte as a potential option.

The talented Uruguayan midfielder has been quite impressive for Sporting CP, and he impressed with his performance against Tottenham in the UEFA Champions League group stages earlier this season.

Ugarte has the potential to develop into a top-class player, and he could prove to be a quality long-term investment for the north London club.

Tottenham have not been able to rotate key players like Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg due to a lack of options this season and the arrival of Ugarte will allow Tottenham to shuffle the pack from time to time.

The opportunity to play for a Premier League club could be an attractive option for the player and it remains to be seen whether the 21-year-old is open to a move to England at this stage of his career.

He needs to play regularly in order to continue his development, and he will probably seek gametime assurances from the Londoners before making the switch.
