Tottenham could sign Premier League ace on a free transfer

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham continue to be linked with Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly but they may have to wait until summer to sign him.

Reports from The Times confirm Tottenham’s sustained interest in securing the services of centre-back.

They tried to sign him in the summer and even made a bid for him but the bid was unsuccessful.

With Kelly’s contract set to expire in the summer, Spurs hoped that they would be able to snap him up in January.

However, the report claims that Bournemouth have previously shown a willingness to let players leave as free agents, which suggests that while they may resist selling Kelly in January, Spurs could secure him on a free transfer in the upcoming summer window.

However, Tottenham’s urgency for defensive reinforcements is dire, especially with their current injury setbacks.

The absence of both Micky van de Ven, sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained against Chelsea, and the suspension of Cristian Romero following the same game has left Spurs in a defensive conundrum.

With only Eric Dier available as a recognized centre-back, manager Ange Postecoglou has faced challenging selections, resorting to deploying right-back Emerson Royal in central defense against Villa.

The lack of centre-back options underscores the pressing need for reinforcements, with the manager keen on bolstering the defensive lineup to maintain stability in the squad.

Failing to secure defensive reinforcements in January could hamper the club’s prospects for the rest of the season.
