In the wake of Antonio Conte’s sacking, Tottenham Hotspur are still searching for their next manager with Cristian Stellini named as the interim manager for the rest of the season.
Mauricio Pochettino, Julian Nagelsmann, Roberto De Zerbi, and Ruben Amorim are all in the mix, and German football journalist Christian Falk has thrown another name into the hat – Oliver Glasner.
Falk has claimed that Tottenham are interested in the 48-year-old Austrian, who currently manages Eintracht Frankfurt. Glasner’s contract includes a release clause, which he can activate after the last Bundesliga match or DFB Pokal.
Although the exact amount of the clause is unknown, Falk estimates it to be in the range of €5m, based on Glasner’s previous contract with Wolfsburg.
He believes that Glasner would be a good fit for Tottenham and believes there could be something between the clubs citing the fact that he did not sign a new contract with Frankfurt.
He wrote in his exclusive CaughtOffside column:
“Tottenham are definitely interested but Nagelsmann wants a break, he doesn’t want to take a club right now and wants time to think it over before the summer. The question remains as to whether Tottenham can wait for so long. I’m not so sure.
“It’s nearly the same situation with Oliver Glasner at Frankfurt; he won’t leave them at the moment. He does have a release clause in his contract, however, which he can use after the last Bundesliga match, or DFB Pokal. Then he can leave and Tottenham could have him immediately. We don’t yet know the amount, though his old contract from Wolfsburg indicates the rough range of the release clause Spurs could expect (around €5m).
“I think Glasner would be a good fit for Tottenham; I think there is something between both sides because Glasner didn’t sign his new contract. I’m not sure if Nagelsmann’s first option is Tottenham. I think it would be fine for him, but there is also Chelsea to consider. Chelsea have him on the list and his management is close to the club; when Timo Werner played there it was the exact same agency.”
While Tottenham’s administrative issues and recent events have made the job less stable, any manager interested in the position will be looking for a stable environment to work in. Tottenham’s pursuit of a top-four finish in the Premier League may also be a factor in attracting top-tier managers.
It remains to be seen who Tottenham will ultimately choose as their next manager, but with Glasner’s name now in the mix, the search has become even more intriguing.
