Tottenham contact 16-goal star regarding summer move, but player has other ideas

Albert Gudmundsson in action

Tottenham Hotspur are looking to sign Genoa attacker Albert Gudmundsson ahead of next season.

The North London club are looking for ways to reinforce their attack in the summer after an impressive start to life under Ange Postecoglou. They have secured Europa League football for next season and are now keen to add more quality to their attack.

According to Corriere dello Sport via SportWitness, Spurs have made contact to sign Albert Gudmundsson from Genoa.

The Iceland international has been a standout performer for the Italian outfit since joining them at the start of 2022. In the 2023/24 season, the 26-year-old forward scored 16 goals and he even bagged five assists. His impressive performances haven’t gone unnoticed and there is no shortage of interest in him.

Tottenham have been linked with Gudmundsson for a while now. They want more firepower in attack and he could be an ideal fit in Postecoglou’s system. His versatility could give the Australian manager multiple tactical options.

While the player has talked about his desire to play in the Premier League in the past, the report suggests Spurs might not be in the best position to sign him as he is keen on staying in Italy now.

The Iceland international is waiting for Inter Milan to knock on his door. The 26-year-old wants to make a leap in his career but he prefers staying in Italy rather than moving to England. The development will certainly come as a major blow for Tottenham, who were hoping to sign the player this summer. It will be interesting to see if they decide to move on to other targets now.
