Tottenham may recall young prospect George Abbott from his loan at Notts County in January, according to club insider John Wenham.
Wenham, a respected voice within the Spurs community and host of the Lilywhite Rose podcast described Abbott as a “special” player who is already making a notable impact at the League Two side.
The 19-year-old, who can operate both as a defensive midfielder and in the backline, has started three out of his four appearances for Notts County in the new season.
Wenham praised Abbott’s versatility and leadership, suggesting that if he continues to shine at this level, Tottenham could reassess his loan and possibly move him to a higher division to further his development.
Speaking to Tottenham News, the journalist said:
“I’m pleased that Abbott has joined Notts County. He’s a special player who can play a couple of positions, and he seems to be bossing it at the age of 19.”
“I’ve seen that they’ve been comparing him to some of their most promising loan players. Therefore, if by January time he is continuing to excel, then we will need to reevaluate the loan.”
“He is already 19, so it might be wise to move him up a division to continue his positive trajectory.”
Abbott has been with Spurs since the age of seven, initially joining the club’s Under-8 team before steadily progressing through the ranks over the years. He made his senior debut for the Lilywhites in May 2023 during a 4-1 win over Leeds United in the Premier League.
Last season, he captained the Tottenham U21 side to the Premier League 2 title and has since signed a contract extension with the club, keeping him at Spurs until 2027.
Given his impressive performances in the new loan spell, Tottenham will likely keep a close eye on Abbott’s progress, and a January recall could be possible if the club believes he would benefit from a bigger challenge.
