Tottenham set to compete with Chelsea for €40 million-rated defender

Tottenham Hotspur are ready to battle Chelsea for the signature of Alessandro Buongiorno.

The North London club might have signed two centre-halves over the last two windows but they are still on the lookout for another defender. Manager Ange Postecoglou is keen on more depth at the back and according to a report from TuttoSport via SportWitness, Tottenham are willing to battle Chelsea for the services of Alessandro Buongiorno.

The Torino academy graduate has been a consistent performer for the Italian club over the past few seasons. He has featured in over 100 matches for his childhood club and his impressive performances have resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe.

Multiple clubs from Italy are keen on his signature but they won’t find it easy to sign the 24-year-old. With his contract at Torino running until the summer of 2028, the club are looking to raise €40 million from his departure.

Serie A clubs might not want to spend that big a fee but the Premier League clubs have the kind of financial strength needed to get the deal done. According to the report, Tottenham and Chelsea have already made moves to sign the Italian international.

The Blues are looking at him as a replacement for Thiago Silva who has decided to end his stint at the London club. But, they will face serious competition from Spurs as they are looking to add more depth to their defence.

Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero have formed a solid partnership in the heart of the defence and Radu Dragusin is a great option on the bench but the Australian manager wants another top defender in his ranks as he looks to compete with the best teams starting next season.
