Tottenham set to compete with Arsenal for defender with 14-G/A last season

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing the Dutch defender Lutsharel Geertruida this summer.

According to reports via SoccerNews, Tottenham will face competition from Arsenal who are keen on signing the 23-year-old defender as well.

Geertruida has been a key player for Feyenoord this past season and he has attracted the attention of the Premier League clubs with his displays. Tottenham could certainly use a versatile defender like him who is capable of operating on either flank as well as a central defender.

Emerson Royal has been linked with a move away from Tottenham and the 23-year-old could prove to be the ideal alternative. Meanwhile, Arsenal are keen on the player as well, and it remains to be seen whether Tottenham can beat their north London rivals and secure the services of the Dutchman.

Geertruida will look to join a big club this summer and the opportunity to move to Tottenham or Arsenal will be quite attractive. It would be a major step up in his career and he would get to showcase his qualities at a higher level.

The Dutch defender contributed to nine goals and five assists this past season and he will help the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal going forward as well.

His contract with Feyenoord expires in 2025 and he could be made available this summer for a reasonable price. The Dutch outfit will not want to lose him on a free transfer next year and it makes sense to cash in on the player now. It remains to be seen where he ends up.

Arsenal will be able to offer the defender Champions League football next season and they have more financial resources compared to Tottenham as well. It remains to be seen whether the Gunners decide to throw a spanner in the works.
