Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie.
The 26-year-old is expected to leave the Spanish club this summer and he could prove to be a useful acquisition for the north London club.
According to a report from Sport via SportWitness, Tottenham have been mentioned as a potential destination for the Ivorian who joined Barcelona on a free transfer at the start of the season.
The player is reportedly a target for Liverpool as well but the report claims that Spurs are ‘better positioned’ to sign the player. Liverpool have lost Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner on free transfers, and they need to bring in midfield replacements.
Barcelona are hoping to raise money through sales and they have identified Kessie as an expendable option. Apparently, the Spanish outfit are putting pressure on the players up for sale to accept a transfer this summer.
The Spanish outfit value Kessie at €35m and it remains to be seen whether Spurs are prepared to pay up. Given the fact that Barcelona signed him on a free transfer, it would represent a significant profit for them.
It is no secret that the London club are in need of midfield reinforcements and Kessie will add defensive cover and physicality to their midfield. Tottenham need to add more depth to their squad in order to rotate their side more often and keep the players fresh.
Kessie could be a key player for them in the coming seasons.
However, Tottenham have missed out on Champions League qualification and it will be interesting to see if the 26-year-old is willing to join a club without European football.
