Tottenham are interested in securing a midfielder in the upcoming transfer window, with Leeds United’s young talent Archie Gray emerging as a target.
And Spurs could consider a cash-plus-player deal to bring the promising 18-year-old to North London.
The deal would involve Tottenham defender Joe Rodon, who spent the last season on loan at Leeds United and is strongly linked with a permanent move there this summer.
Former Tottenham defender Alan Hutton, speaking to Football Insider, backed the club to make the swap deal.
He also emphasised that any potential swap involving Rodon would also necessitate a substantial cash addition to secure Gray’s services.
He told Football Insider
“It would have to be big cash, not just Rodon, I think it would be a lot of money on top of that.
“He’s had an outstanding season. The guy has played at full-back, played in midfield, played as a number ten, the list goes on.
“I think he’s only going to get better. He plays with such freedom and it’s refreshing to see.
“The way Ange plays, that’s perfectly suited to him. He’s comfortable coming inside and taking the ball with his back to play and getting forward with his ability to cross into the box.
“He’s so young as well.
“It’s going to be a big fee, but looking to the future, if they can bring someone like him in now, he could be there for years to come.
“That would be a brilliant signing for them.”
Despite Gray being under contract with Leeds until 2028, Tottenham hopes to leverage Leeds’ financial situation following their failed promotion bid. This scenario might force Leeds to offload some players, providing Spurs a potential advantage in negotiations.
As Tottenham prepares for the transfer window, securing Gray would represent a strategic move to bolster their squad with young talent capable of making an immediate impact and contributing to the club’s long-term success.
