Tottenham Hotspur were reportedly keen on signing Chelsea defender Benoit Badiashile.
According to CaughtOffside, Tottenham wanted to sign the player on loan for the remainder of the season, but they have now failed in their attempts to get the deal done.
It is no secret that they need to bring in defensive reinforcements and the 23-year-old could have been a useful acquisition for them. Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have had injury problems this season and Tottenham need another quality central defender at the club to rotate their key players and deal with injury problems.
Badiashile has struggled for regular game time at Chelsea and the player could be keen on the move. However, Chelsea are unwilling to let the player leave this month and the transfer has now fallen through. It will be interesting to see if Spurs decide to move on to other targets.
They need quality additions this month if they want to get their season back on track. They have been quite disappointing and they are currently 15th in the standings. Tottenham were expected to challenge for Champions League qualification this season, but the campaign has not gone according to plan for them. It will be interesting to see if they can improve in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, the Chelsea defender will look to get his career back on track as well. He will be desperate to play more often, and it remains to be seen whether he can secure an exit from the London club before the January window closes.
A short loan spell could have been ideal for him, especially if anyone is willing to provide him with ample playing opportunities. Sitting on the bench at Chelsea, at this stage of his career is unlikely to benefit him.
