Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly shown interest in signing RB Leipzig’s talented midfielder Dani Olmo.
The 24-year-old joined Leipzig in 2020 and with his current contract set to expire in the summer of 2024, the German club may have to sell him this summer to avoid losing him on a free transfer next year.
According to a report by German outlet BILD (via Sport Witness), Olmo is leaning towards a summer exit from Leipzig rather than a contract extension.
Tottenham are one of the English clubs that have enquired about the player, who is expected to cost around €40 million in the transfer market. The report also claims that Spurs have been ‘in touch’ with Olmo directly.
Olmo has scored four goals and providing six assists in 23 appearances across all competitions. In his overall career with RB Leipzig, he has accumulated 44 goals and assists in 115 appearances.
Notably, Olmo has previously played under Julian Nagelsmann, who is rumored to be a potential candidate for Tottenham’s next manager, which could potentially pave the way for a reunion at the North London club.
Tottenham are currently in need of a top-class attacking midfielder to add creativity to their midfield, and Olmo’s skills and versatility could be a valuable addition to their squad.
However, competition for his signature is expected to be fierce, with other clubs also reportedly interested in the player.
Tottenham are also linked with Leicester City’s James Maddison, but face competition from Newcastle United in securing his services.
The outcome of Tottenham’s league position at the end of the season and their choice of manager could play a crucial role in determining their ability to secure signings like Olmo.
