Tottenham Hotspur’s efforts to strengthen their defence have encountered a setback after Crystal Palace rejected a substantial bid for centre-back Marc Guehi.

As the January transfer window nears its conclusion, Spurs remain active in the market, urgently seeking defensive reinforcements to cope with their ongoing injury crisis.

Despite submitting a £70 million offer for Guehi, Palace reportedly turned down the bid, as confirmed by Sky Sports.

The 24-year-old England international, under contract with the Eagles until the summer of 2026, is highly regarded in the Premier League. His composed defending, positional awareness, and leadership qualities have made him a vital figure at Selhurst Park.

This season, Guehi has made 28 appearances across all competitions, contributing three goals and an assist. As club captain, he has demonstrated not only his defensive prowess but also his ability to inspire those around him.

Guehi’s football journey began at Chelsea, where he progressed through the youth ranks and played a key role in their title-winning academy campaigns. Following limited first-team opportunities, he gained valuable experience during two loan spells at Swansea City, helping them reach the Championship play-off final.

In 2021, Crystal Palace signed Guehi for a reported £18 million, making him one of their most expensive acquisitions. His performances have since justified the investment, earning him a place in England’s Euro 2024 squad, where he played a significant role in their path to the final.

While Tottenham’s attempt to secure Guehi has fallen through, manager Ange Postecoglou will need to quickly pivot to alternative options.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has hinted that Spurs remain active in the market, with ongoing efforts to finalize a deal for Axel Disasi among other possibilities.

With time running out, Tottenham must act swiftly to address their defensive needs and maintain competitiveness in what has already been a challenging season
