Timo Werner’s time at Tottenham Hotspur appears to be nearing its end, with reports suggesting the club has decided not to make his loan deal from RB Leipzig permanent.

Despite glimpses of his talent, the German international has struggled to win over key decision-makers at the club during his extended stay.

Ange Postecoglou makes U-turn on Timo Werner

According to GiveMeSport, Tottenham’s Australian manager Ange Postecoglou initially emerged as one of Werner’s staunchest supporters, advocating for his stay despite scepticism from others behind the scenes. However, the Australian manager reportedly turned against the forward following a poor performance against Rangers, where Werner was hauled off at half-time.

Ange publicly slammed the German’s performance, calling it unacceptable.

“In the moment we’re in right now, it’s not like we’ve got many options. I need everyone to at least be going out there trying to give the best of themselves. His performance in the first half wasn’t acceptable.”

Werner arrived at Spurs in January this year on an initial six-month loan and made an immediate impact. He marked his debut with an assist in a 2-2 draw against Manchester United and netted crucial goals against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa, prompting the club to extend his loan for another season.

The extension includes an option to buy for £8.5 million, a seemingly reasonable fee for a player of Werner’s pedigree. However, the 2024/25 campaign has not gone as planned. Despite moments of brilliance—such as his goal in the League Cup victory over Manchester City and an assist in a 4-0 thrashing of the same opponents in the league—Werner’s overall output has been underwhelming.

With Tottenham reportedly now deciding against a permanent deal and RB Leipzig reportedly not too keen on keeping him either, the player may need to start searching for a new club soon.
