“They’ll look at other options” – Hutton suggests Tottenham attacker’s future at the club will be decided in the coming weeks

By Mehdi Gokal -

According to Alan Hutton, Tottenham January signing Timo Werner has to impress Ange Postecoglou in the coming weeks or the club will start looking at other options in the summer.

The North London club signed Werner on loan from RB Leipzig on a 6-month loan and he has proven to be useful so far, picking up 2 assists in 5 games.

Spurs have the option to make the deal permanent for £15m if they wish to, but the former Chelsea man will need to seriously impress the club.

Werner has found himself down the pecking order after Son’s return from the Asian Cup. The South Korean has assumed the left-side of the attack where Werner was being played in his absence while in-form Richarlison continues to play upfront.

And Hutton believes that it is up to the German himself to force himself into the starting XI if he wants the move to become permanent.

Speaking to Tottenham News, Hutton said:

“A lot of this will be rumour. So much stuff goes on behind the scenes with agents, so we don’t know if this is an actual fact.”

“Obviously, Werner will know through speaking to his agent and club what kind of both they are going down.”

“It’s up to him, he’s got this opportunity to come and shine. If he doesn’t take it and then he finds himself out of the team and he’s on the bench just getting five minutes here or there, they’re probably not going to want to buy him, they’ll probably look elsewhere.”

“He’s got a fantastic opportunity in front of him and he has to take it. If not, they’ll look at other options.”

It has been widely reported that the club will target another wide attacker in the summer with some big names being linked including Wolves’ Pedro Neto, Barcelona star Raphinha, and Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams.
