Tottenham beat Qarabag FK 3-0 in their Europa League opener, despite playing with 10 men for almost the entire game.
Radu Dragusin picked up a red card inside 10 minutes of kick-off but Spurs responded immediately with a goal. Brennan Johnson scored in his 3rd consecutive game to give the North London club a lead.
The second half saw Pape Matar Sarr double the lead and while the away team had the chance to get back into the game after Bissouma conceded a penalty, they failed to capitalise on it.
Solanke sealed the win with a finish from close range on the rebound as Spurs kicked off their Europa League campaign with a win.
Speaking before the game, former Tottenham striker Peter Crouch expressed his confidence in the team’s chances to go all the way in the tournament.
During a discussion on TNT Sports, Crouch acknowledged that while the Premier League title may be out of reach this season, Spurs remain strong contenders for the Europa League crown. He emphasised that Tottenham have the potential to make a deep run in the competition as it progresses.
As quoted by BBC Sport, the 43-year-old pundit remarked:
“The Premier League is not looking like it’s achievable – top four potentially.
“They are favourites in this competition. As you go deeper into the competition, there will become a chance for Tottenham to have an impact in this competition.”
The Europa League offers a realistic shot at silverware, and Crouch believes the team possesses the quality needed to make a serious impact in the tournament.
