Brennan Johnson claims Micky van de Ven is the fastest player in the Premier League following his assist against Manchester United.
Tottenham have completely turned around their fortunes in the last few weeks with four consecutive wins across all competitions. While they were slow off the blocks, Spurs have picked up the pace of late and their 3-0 win over Manchester United away from home will be a massive boost for them.
The North London club took an early lead in this fixture on Sunday as Brennan Johnson slotted one into the back of an empty net from inside the six-yard area in the third minute of the game. Micky van de Ven displayed his exceptional pace and did the hard yards to help his teammate get on the scoresheet.
After awarding Van de Ven the Man of the Match award, Johnson made a bold claim while speaking with pundits on Sky Sports.
When asked about the opening goal of the match, the Welsh international said (h/t TBR): “I think as soon as he started going I just thought, there’s no one faster arguably in the Premier League than Micky when he gets going.
“So I think, I knew he wasn’t going to stop any time soon, as soon as he got to a position where he could cross it I knew I had to be there and once it came to me and I knew I was free I might have smiled a little bit before it went in.
“I just had to be in that position so once I was I was happy to put it in.”
The Dutch centre-back intercepted the ball in his own half and ran towards the opposition goal at some pace. He glided past everyone with ease and once he got the better of Matthijs de Ligt, Van de Ven squared it to his teammate Johnson who was free at the second post.
The 23-year-old winger was full of praises for the Dutch centre-back and he claimed Van de Ven might just be the fastest player in the Premier League. As soon as Johnson saw him run with the ball, he knew that the former Wolfsburg star was not going to stop anytime soon. Once he was inside the box, the Welsh international just wanted to be at the right place to slot it home and he was glad to be there to give his team the lead.
